United States Ranks Among Least Cyber-Secure Countries [STUDY]

US takes the crown for the least cyber-secure country, topping the rankings in North America and coming 20th globally.

The United States takes the crown for the country with the highest cyber danger score in North America.  This is according to the latest study by Reboot Digital PR Services, which reveals the least cyber-secure countries to work from

Interested in the safety of digital nomads, experts at Reboot Digital PR Services analyzed cybersecurity statistics, including drive-by downloads, phishing sites, malware hosting sites, and compromised computers in order to create a cyber danger index score.

The researchers found that the United States takes the crown for the least cyber-secure country, with a cyber danger score of 62.4 out of 100 — topping the rankings in North America and coming 20th globally. 

 

Key global findings:

  • The United States is the least cyber-secure country in North America
  • Indonesia and Cyprus are the least cyber-secure countries to work abroad
  • Panama ranks third worldwide for total number of phishing sites at 1530

On average the United States welcomes over 79 million international visitors each year, and with several tourist attractions in each of the 50 states there are plenty of experiences for budding digital nomads.

Panama stands in second at 60.1/100. The country has a combined total of 2,680 phishing sites and malware hosting sites for every 100,000 URLs.

El Salvador is only third with a cyber danger score of 47.4, despite having the highest number of average monthly drive-by downloads (24) and number of compromised computers per 100,000 internet users (2,330)

Canada hosts over 790 malware sites and there are, on average, 32 drive-by downloads per month which lands the country in fourth with a cyber danger score of 45.7 out of 100.

At the opposite end, Honduras is the most cyber-secure North American location with a cyber danger score of just 15.2 out of 100. The country ranks as the second most secure globally.

Meanwhile, Indonesia and Cyprus are the least cyber-secure countries worldwide, both registering a cyber danger score of 82.8.

Most Cyber-Secure Countries Worldwide

 

The most secure country to work from worldwide is Finland at first position one with a cyber danger score of 12.6, followed by Honduras with a cyber danger score of 15.2, and Guatamala with a cyber danger score of 16.4 resprectively.
