The Benefits of Wine You Cannot Ignore for Good Health & Success

Your health is a critical factor for success in everything you do. And while there are many ways to ensure you remain healthy, including eating a healthy diet and exercising, one of the most delightful and effective ways to improve your health and mental state is drinking wine.

Despite commonly held beliefs about drinking alcoholic beverages, having a glass of wine every day actually has many benefits for your body. You can reduce risk of fatal diseases like some forms of cancers and also alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression by drinking wine.

Today, it is common in general family celebrations and friendly social gatherings to have one or two bottles of wine served for everyone to enjoy. Toasts are made and everyone drinks a preferred brand of wine to celebrate the occasion.

It’s also a common tradition among many people to take wines of one or two different kinds during a social outing or party. In fact, all over the world, across different cultures, it has become a common custom to drink wine after having a good and hearty meal.

Why is it that people love sharing a glass of wine after meals and during celebrations? How does drinking wine impact your health and physical wellbeing, anyway?

Well, let's explore why people love drinking wine (and you should, too) and the many ways drinking wine helps in improving your physical and mental health.

Why People Enjoy Drinking Wine

People are generally surprised to learn that drinking wine on a daily basis can improve their health, and help to keep their heart strong and healthy. The main reason for skepticism about wine consumption is that it is an alcoholic beverage that can induce intoxication in people.

Drinking wine in large quantities and in an unregulated way can in fact lead to health problems, like high blood pressure, liver damage, obesity, heart diseases, and so on. So, moderation is vital.

People also tend to fear that if they start drinking wine, then they may easily become addicted to it and that can have a detrimental effect on their lives and health. But that is not necessarily true and drinking wine in regulated amounts will have the exact opposite effects on your body.

It is crucial that you drink wine in a moderate manner to ensure that you get the associated health benefits and guard against over indulgence. Drink the recommended one glass a day for women and two a day for men — you will enjoy its health benefits.

Wine is rich in antioxidants and can be very relaxing. Many people love its taste and flavor, while others drink wine to calm their nerves, reduce tension, and induce a good night’s sleep.

Others drink wine to relieve aches in the body, lower cholesterol levels, reduce hypertension, fight the risks of contracting cancer, and reduce the risk of getting coronary heart diseases.

All these are some of the many benefits of wine you should not ignore.

Reasons Wine Can Improve Your Health

Studies have found that the resveratrol found in wine, which is an antioxidizing element, can help to regulate cellular growth and cellular structure, with potential antiaging effects.

Research is still ongoing on this topic, but available reports show that resveratrol – an essential component of wine – helps in preventing damages to the arterial walls, clogged arteries, raising the HDL and increasing your “good cholesterol.” It comes as no surprise, therefore, that health and fitness experts recommend having red wine as an excellent source of resveratrol.

One study by John Hopkins University Medical Center also found that resveratrol contained in red grape skins could protect against stroke when the grapes were turned into wine. Beware, though, drinking wine heavily is more likely to have the opposite effect of protecting against stroke.

According to Patrick J. Skerrett, former executive editor of Harvard Health, and co-author of Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy: The Harvard Guide to Healthy Eating, The Fertility Diet, “eating red grapes, blueberries, and pistachios, or having a glass of your favorite red wine, are pleasurable ways to take in resveratrol.”

A more recent study published in the medical journal Neuropharmacology also revealed that wine can be effective in fighting off symptoms of depression and anxiety, thanks again to its resveratrol compound. People suffering from chronic depression can drink a glass of wine every day and get some relief and feel more empowered to deal with their depression.

“Resveratrol may be an effective alternative to drugs for treating patients suffering from depression and anxiety disorders,” says Dr. Ying Xu, a research associate professor at Buffalo’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, who lead the recent study on effects of wine on depression.

But, again, it is important to remember that one must always drink in moderation and not drink in excess. As already mentioned, drinking excessive amounts of wine and alcoholic beverages is hazardous and can cause health problems, including hypertension, diabetes, and liver damage.

Drink Your Wine in Moderation

The benefits you get from drinking wine will mainly depend on how you drink. You’ll get the benefits of wine if you drink it in moderation, preferably at regular times also.

If you’d like to drink a glass of wine right after dinner, then it would be absolutely fine. In fact, it is generally best to drink a little red wine once you have completed eating your dinner. The reason for this is that it can aid in your digestion of the food.

Moreover, it is also important to not limit yourself to drinking just red wine, because there are many other kinds of wine available all over the world that can be just as healthy for you.

Both red and white wine have health benefits. In red wine, the "red" color appears during the fermentation process, where the skins of red grapes are mixed with the juice adding the color. In white wine, white grapes are fermented and white grapes skin is not mixed in the juice.

In the event that you want recommendations for the best wines, then Margaux wine is considered among the best wines that you can get for health purposes. You can buy your wines from online stores, which usually offer the best prices for different types of wine.

Remember wine is a type of alcoholic beverage. You must not drink a lot of wine as it will make you drunk and that is not the purpose of recommending it here.

Go on then and unwind with a glass or two of red wine after a stressful day at work. It will do you a lot of good when drunk regularly in moderation.
