Are you trying to learn English? Do you want to become fluent in the language fast?

Don’t worry if you are having trouble with the learning process right now. Chances are, you are incorrectly approaching the learning process.

Every learner dreams of becoming fluent in his target language. Everyone can learn a foreign language, but not everyone can be fluent in it.

Learning English or any language is not as difficult as it is made out to be. What you need is a clear direction. You can learn English in years or months; it all depends on how you choose to do it.

So, how can you become fluent in English fast?

Here are a some effective tips that we think might help you do just that:

1. Set Clear Goals for Yourself

Start by setting clear, achievable goals that you want to achieve. Don’t think to yourself, “I want to have a C1 level in 5 months.” First of all, this is a goal that you are not likely to achieve. You need to get there gradually by going through the levels A2 and B1.

Getting to level C1 will probably take you 9 to 10 months. Even then, it is a goal that is ambitious, but at the same time, possible to achieve.

Your goal should be attainable, but not too easy. If you find the journey to be too tough, or too boring, soon you will lose interest in it.

Setting goals will also give you a direction. It will enable you to pass point B and C as you reach the point D. On the other hand, if you go from point A to D, it will become impossible for you to do it.

2. Enroll for English Lessons

The next reasonable step is to join an English class or course. It all really depends on your language level. If you are at B1, then you directly need to work on your fluency. If you are an amateur learner, first you have to grasp the basic concepts and learn the language.

There are many readily available learning courses online. In this digital work, finding a teacher for reasonable fees is not difficult also. You can learn the language over Skype on your laptop, regardless of your geographical location.

Choose a learning course that targets your need. If you already know your way around in English, taking a TEFL course might help you. It will not only help you get a grasp on language, but it will also help you land a teaching job in a foreign country.

Furthermore, teaching English to other learners will also improve your speaking abilities.

3. Listen to English Speakers

Don’t limit your learning to what your teacher is teaching you. You need to learn on your own as well. How are children able to acquire a language by simply listening to it?

It’s because the human brain is capable of this act, and you need to take advantage of its abilities. While you can learn English as much as you can, nothing will help you more than by listening to it.

Whether it is an English podcast, song, TV show, or a film, get your hands on all of them. Listen to English podcasts while you are going to work. In your free time, read an English newspaper or book.

There is no limit to what you can do. Use your free time in the best possible way.

4. Learn the Alphabets and Vowels First

Are you learning English vocabulary or the body of words used in the language without giving any thought to the vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, and u) used in the words? If you are, then you need to rethink your approach because it will likely not get you anywhere.

Every language has a certain number of words, alphabets and vowels that are most commonly used by the speakers. Experts say that once you learn these commonly used words, the vowels, and alphabets you’ll be able to form sentences and phrases easier.

Instead of focusing your attention to memorizing the words, first you need to decide on WHAT you need to learn. There is a chance that you spend all your time and energy on the wrong things. It will waste your time and demotivate you.

Learning something will not matter if it is not going to improve your speaking abilities.

5. Keep Practicing to Speak in English

Becoming fluent in English is something that you cannot achieve overnight. It will need extensive practice. If you want to fasten the process, you have to speak it as much as you can.

As you learn a new language, you need to practice it as well. Whether you find a native speaker around you or hire someone, it is up to you. Unless you actually start speaking in English, you won’t be able to become fluent in it.

Speak in English in your daily life. It will help you get a command over your language, and you will recognize your mistakes.

6. Be Bold - Don't Be Self Conscious

Don’t be too self-conscious. Believe that you can become fluent and work towards it.

Many language learners become nervous about the way they sound. They are afraid that listeners might judge them on their mistake and accent, and that is a wrong perception. Being too self-conscious will prolong becoming fluent in English.

When you are learning English, the native speaker will know that you are a learner. In these circumstances, native speakers can be very supportive and understanding. The only person who is overanalyzing your accents and mistakes is you.

Those who are afraid to speak the language miss the opportunity to learn about their mistakes, and this can seriously hinder their progress. Once you shake off this fear, nothing can stop you. Be bold and speak confidently. Learn and improve throughout.

Conclusion

Speaking another language fluently is not something you achieve without putting in some effort to become fluent. It is something you achieve after a lot of practice.

Listen to the English language and read English texts to become a better speaker. Most importantly, never lose hope. You can do anything as long as you believe in yourself.

No matter how many mistakes you make, you need to learn from them and keep moving forward. Use our tips in your language learning journey, and you won’t be disappointed.
