Whether it’s a personal car or a company vehicle, some bad driving habits not only damage your tires, but also put you at risk of catastrophic accidents.

Every machine we use is affected by how we use them. With vehicles, their performance is affected by how you drive. Your driving has a significant influence on vehicle maintenance, particularly with the tires you have.

You develop your driving habit from the first day you learn how to drive. However, it can change through time due to previous experiences on the road and driving other vehicles. You’ll learn if it’s for the better or worse by looking at your tires.

Your tire treads begin to wear out once you start driving your vehicle. How you drive can dramatically speed up treadwear and inflict other damage to them.

Here’re some bad driving habits you should avoid and the impact of the driving habits on your tires:

1. Quick take-offs when driving

Taking off quickly from being stationary can hurt your tires. Quick take-offs cause your tires to spin against the road instead of having its tread gripping it to propel your vehicle forward. When that happens, your tires leave bits of rubber behind, as evident by the streaks of black marks.

Doing that frequently will speed up tread wear, thinning your tire’s treads. Thin tire treads won’t have enough grip to propel your vehicle forward. As a result, your tires will be more prone to failing, which may lead to accidents if they’re not replaced.

2. Making quick turns

Making quick turns has a similar effect on your tires as quick take-offs have. Frequent quick turns also leave bits of rubber on the road, which will lead to quicker tread wear. It usually happens when you make a quick turn at the last second at an unsafe speed.

Avoid making quick turns and take-offs because they’re unnecessary most of the time. That way, you won’t need to spend on new tires quickly as well.

Whether you got them from a local shop or reputable online seller like Triangle Tires you’d want to use your tires for the thousands of miles they were meant to travel for.

3. Driving at high speeds

Driving fast all the time doesn’t do your tires any good as well. Speeding generates excessive heat from the friction of your tires constantly rubbing against the road’s surface. Prolonged exposure to heat will soften the rubber and weaken your tires.

If not addressed sooner, your tires will be at risk of blowing out, which is very dangerous when driving at top speeds. Tire blowouts at high speeds can be catastrophic and may lead to serious injury or even death.

To avoid such accidents, you should stay within the tires’ speed rating, the maximum speed your tires can safely operate.

4. Exceeding weight capacity

Driving with heavy loads also takes its toll on your tires. This is because your vehicle and tires each have a limit to how much load they can carry that you mustn’t exceed. Putting too much weight on your tires will weaken them, which may lead to failure.

Frequently carrying heavy loads threatens your tires by increasing the pressure inside of them and the temperatures they’re exposed to. This can be true even for larger vehicles like trucks.

So, if you find yourself having to carry heavy loads with your vehicle, you should buy tires that can handle the extra weight you’re putting on it.

In conclusion

Your driving is critical to the lifespan of your tires. Bad driving habits can put them and yourself at risk since tires play a crucial role in vehicle performance.

Don’t be too quick when taking off and turning; avoid driving too fast all the time and carrying too much weight when driving.

Adjust your driving accordingly to stay safe and prevent spending lots of money on repairs and replacement.
