LinkedIn Launches “Hello Monday" Podcast Focused on Professional Development

With popularity of Podcasts rising, LinkedIn has launched its first podcast called 'Hello Monday.'

Hello Monday, which will be hosted by LinkedIn senior editor-at-large Jessi Hempel, will showcase stories of professional development, and highlight the role LinkedIn has played, and can play, in it.

“Each week, Jessi will talk to featured guests who have navigated layoffs, company collapses, evaporating industries, and emerged from these transitions happier and more successful,” the professional social network explains on its Apple podcast description page. “We'll infuse these interviews with reporting from LinkedIn managing editor Caroline Fairchild to unearth and present lessons that apply to our own careers.”

Unearthing Lessons that Apply to Our Careers

Jessi, who joined LinkedIn last October from Wired, is a veteran journalist with 16 years of experience covering the tech industry. She says work is changing, and the industries in which we begin our careers will also change radically. Hello Monday podcast will provide listeners with the tools and the inspiration to weather those changes, she says.

"I hope that the podcast helps folks realize that there are tricky moments — and difficult conversations — in all of our careers, and that they take away from the show helpful lessons on how they can better navigate these moments," the editor-at-large at LinkedIn told the Hollywood Reporter.

The first episode of Hello Monday launched on March 4th, featuring an interview with Late Night host Seth Meyers, who discusses how to nature talent and lead a workforce when many of today’s employees have side gigs.

Future episods aim to shine more light on the role that work plays in people's lives. They’ll answer questions such as, “What does work mean to us?” “Should we love what we do?” “How do we make sure we still have jobs tomorrow, and that they’re good jobs – jobs we feel good about?”

Jessi adds that the show encourages feedback from listeners on their personal workplace stories and will feature some of those stories on the podcast.

Editorial Push Continues

The launch of Hello Monday podcast comes in the wake of a growing editorial focus at LinkedIn. The Microsoft-owned social network for professionals has increased its editorial team, now totaling more than 50 editors located across the world who curate listings of the latest news stories of interest to the platform's uers.

“One of the main reasons that people use LinkedIn is to stay informed, to get the news and information they need to stay ahead,” Dan Roth, LinkedIn’s editor-in-chief, explained. “There is tremendous demand in the professional world for podcasts—if this is the way that people are consuming content or getting their information, then LinkedIn needs to be part of that.”

LinkedIn has teamed up with Cadence13 to produce and distribute its Hello Monday podcast. The podcast is now available on LinkedIn and everywhere else you can download podcasts from.

"A lot of people don't wake up to Monday saying, 'Awesome, it's Monday. We want to somehow capture that experience,'" Roth said. “You should look forward to going to work so Monday is a good day for you rather than a day of mourning for the lost weekend."
