Many of us have a busy and productive work life, and we don’t get enough time to take good care of ourselves. But, irrespective of whether it’s easy for us or not, taking care of our health should always come first. Why? Because if you are not healthy, it's difficult to be successful – at work or home.

So, what are the three top factors that influence your health and fitness? Your diet, exercise and sleep. Let's take a closer look at why and how these factors affect your fitness and ultimately play a pivotal role in achieving good health and success in life.

Imagine it's time for lunch and you have been working since 6 in the morning. So when the appetite hits you, all you imagine will be convenient but greasy junk food. A salad is the last thing you need. So, how do the extra calories in your fries and burgers impact your productivity post lunch?

According to the Harvard Business review, food plays a crucial role in determining our performance at work. The study was aimed at tracking food consumption and moods and behaviors of the participants.

The participants who consumed more vegetables and fruits and at the same time avoided meals high in fats were engaged and happier. They were also more creative than people who opted for meals high in calories and fat.

We often tend to the think about food simplistically. Many of us face reports emails, and other mountains of work and at the end, we tend to relate food to fuel. But, is this analogy accurate? Because from fuel, you can expect consistency. But, on the contrary, food is highly unpredictable. In short, what you eat can impact your productivity and success rate in many ways. So, choose your meals smartly.

Stress may take a toll on our everyday life. So, how do you combat this problem? You can melt all your stress and calories away with every lift or stride at the gym. Exercising is a good outlet to combat stress and to divert your thoughts from your work pressures. More importantly, it makes sure that you are fit too. Exercising regularly can fight depression and ward off mental blocks that might act as a hindrance to your success in life.

It might be easy to talk about working out but, getting out and doing it is what matters. Schedule 45 minutes of workout time every day. Don’t postpone your workout sessions even if you promise to yourself that you will do it later in the day. Treat it as something that you must do rather than something you might do.

When the work life starts to get demanding, it can negatively impact our sleep. You get to the work desk just after the sun's up and might leave only when it is dark. A couple of hours later, you might be crawling to your bed with your laptop or smartphone. And then, the cycle repeats.

But, these are the things that will come with your job. So, even if you are a night owl, you can still take steps to ensure that you are receiving the rest you need. So, why is good sleep important? Lack of adequate sleep can cause greater levels of stress, higher levels of blood pressure and lower brain function. In short, your performance and productivity will suffer if you are deprived of adequate sleep. This way your success rates may diminish gradually.

So, how do you combat chronic sleep deprivation? Devising a schedule and sticking to it can surely help. Definitive work hours is essential, especially if you work from home. This makes sure that you get ample time to relax and unwind after you are done with your job. If you are thinking about work while hitting the bed, you may find yourself awake. And most importantly when you hear the alarm, get out of that bed no matter what. This way you can resist the desire to oversleep, and you will not disturb the sleep cycle.

Keeping your diet, exercise, and sleep in check can help you increase your work rate, and most importantly make you feel happy and healthy. You won't get very far if you kill yourself with work. Always remember that fitness is crucial to success as it helps you to get more work done, go further and at the end of the day, be jovial doing it.
