5 Animals that Make the Best Pets

Not all animals can make great pets, but some make for truly amazing pets.

Keeping a pet at home is truly one of the most rewarding activities, although it’s not always easy to take care of a pet. It’s a full-time responsibility.

That’s right! Bringing a pet home means a lifelong commitment. Besides, not all animals can make great pets. Each animal is different from another, and not all of them qualify the pet criteria.

Here, we'll highlight a few animals that can make the best pets, and mention the reasons alongside each. Continue reading...

1. Dogs

I believe a pet needs to be faithful. You bring it home, you take care of it, love it, feed it, and what happens if he runs away at the end of the day? You’ll be devastated. Isn’t that right?

Dogs are faithful animals. There are various breeds of dogs, and the best part of the story is that every breed can be kept at home as a pet. Just make sure to get all the details about the dog’s breed you’re bringing home.

Why? It’s because you may need to make arrangements according to the dog’s breed that includes the temperature of the house, grooming seasons, essential items like a feeding bowl, ear protection for dogs, and more.

2. Rabbits

Needless to say, rabbits are adorable creatures. Do you know they top the list of family-friendly pets? A number of people say that rabbits and owls are the first choice of intelligent people.

Rabbits are easy to maintain, so you don’t need to worry about their feeding or grooming sessions. One thing that I want to highlight here is that rabbits are social animals. Bringing a single rabbit home is not going to cut it.

If you plan to keep a rabbit as a pet, be prepared to buy a pair of two rabbits or more. Rabbits remain healthy and happy when they’re between others of their kind.

3. Cats

It goes without saying that cats are the most popular choice when it comes to keeping a pet. Those fluffy little creatures are low-maintenance animals; hence, easy to take care of.

Still, there’s one thing that you must know about cats beforehand. They’re emotionally alert. They know when you care and when you ignore them. They may react to your moods, so you must be careful.

Cats again have various breeds like dogs. The price of a cat may vary from breed to breed. If you want to stay under a budget while buying the animal, I would suggest you get a calico cat.

They’re dual-colored and exceptionally cute. I was recently checking the price of male calico cats, and I must say they were quite reasonable.

4. Fish

Ranking fourth, fish is another family-friendly pet. It is an excellent choice if you need a pet for your young kids. It doesn’t need any complicated maintenance or training to keep a fish.

Yet, I would suggest you start small if it’s your first time. You can start with a little aquarium, and once you get the required experience, you can expand your aquarium or get a pretty pond made in the backyard of your home.

Oh, and please check out the type of fish you bring home. Not all of them are as friendly as others. For example, they say goldfish is pretty tricky to maintain. It’s sadly not friendly at all.

5. Tortoises

Last but not least, tortoises can also make amazing pets especially if you have kids at home. They make minimal to no less, so it won’t be wrong to say that they’re low-maintenance animals.

There’s only one tricky part of the story. You need to be very alert when feeding a tortoise. Make sure it doesn’t consume a lot of roughage. Oh, and tortoises have a big appetite, so you need to be ready to bring large quantities of tortoise food.

Apart from their food and general maintenance, you should also take good care of your tortoise’s hibernation needs.

For a tortoise, the winter season is usually reserved for hibernation. October to February is typically the time for hibernation; however, it may vary depending on the breed of the tortoise.

In Conclusion

Other than the animals mentioned above, there are many others that can make incredible pets, including guinea pigs, ferrets, birds, horses, and more. All these animals can be a great source of pleasure and companionship for their owners.

Nevertheless, I want you to know that keeping a pet is a huge responsibility. As mentioned above, it’s a lifelong commitment. Your pet needs your attention and care just like any other person in the house.

As a result, it’s going to love you unconditionally, and what could be better than that? I wish you good luck and a wonderful day ahead!
