Success isn’t defined by where you grew up or who your parents are. It isn’t based on how well you performed in school or how many degrees you have. Rather, it comes down to things like your personality, mindset and outlook on life.

If you are looking to become a successful entrepreneur, grow your business to new levels and fulfill your dreams, it’s important to consider the personality traits of successful business people. What personality traits do successful entrepreneurs have that helps them create the environment for success?

Personality Traits of Successful Entrepreneurs

Many contemporary personality psychologists summarize human personality into five basic dimensions, often referred to as the "Big 5" personality traits. The five broad personality dimensions are:

  • Extraversion (your level of sociability and enthusiasm)
  • Agreeableness (your level of friendliness and kindness)
  • Conscientiousness (your level of organization and work ethic)
  • Emotional Stability (your level of calmness and tranquility)
  • Intellect (your level of creativity and curiosity)

When you look at successful entrepreneurs around the world, you realize they tend to have a special mix of all these characteristics and personality traits. Most of them are smart, often more “street smart” than “book smart.” They are creative and risk-takers. They can also take criticism for what it’s worth.
